Overview
dsmdle is a free, no-account daily game. We try to collect as little personal data as possible. This page explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.
We don't track you individually
There are no accounts, no third-party analytics, no advertising trackers, and no profiles. We don't know who you are and we don't try to find out. The only thing we look at in aggregate is where in the world the game is being played — at the country level — so we can decide which features to develop for the people actually using dsmdle.
Who is responsible
The team operating dsmdle is responsible for how your data is handled. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, please reach out via the contact form.
What we collect and why
1. Game results (anonymous)
When you finish a daily case, we send the result to our database. Each record contains:
- The case you played and which diagnoses you guessed
- Whether you solved it, number of tries, number of clues used
- The country your request came from (a two-letter code, e.g. US, DE) — derived from your IP address by our hosting provider; the IP itself is not stored with the result
- A timestamp
No name, email, IP address, or device identifier is attached to game results. They are not linkable to you. We use them to show global statistics (such as solve rate per case) and to understand our userbase's geography for feature planning.
2. Local game state
Your personal stats, streaks, language preference, and the state of today's game are stored in your browser's localStorage and a small language cookie. This data never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data deletes it. These are strictly necessary to make the game work.
3. Contact form
If you write to us through the contact form, we store your message and — only if you tick the "contact me back" box — your email. We also store the IP address of the submission to prevent spam and abuse.
4. Server and hosting logs
Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs (request URL, status code, IP address, user agent) for security and reliability. We do not use them for analytics or profiling. They are retained according to the provider's standard policy.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, no passwords, no profiles
- No third-party advertising or marketing trackers
- No analytics SDKs (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, etc.)
- No cross-site tracking cookies
- No sale or rental of any data, ever
Who processes the data
We use a small number of standard service providers to run the site:
- A hosting and edge-network provider (serves the site, generates the country code from your IP)
- A managed database provider (stores game results and contact messages)
Some of these providers may process data outside Europe. Where they do, transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual safeguards.
How long we keep data
- Anonymous game results: kept indefinitely for aggregate statistics. They are not linked to you.
- Contact messages: kept for as long as needed to respond and for a reasonable follow-up period, then deleted.
- Hosting logs: retained per the provider's default policy (typically days to a few weeks).
- Local browser data: stays until you clear it.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have it corrected or erased
- Restrict or object to its processing
- Receive a copy in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is what we're relying on
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
Because game results are anonymous, we usually cannot link them back to a specific person — but for any contact-form data, just get in touch and we'll act on your request.
Children
dsmdle is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Please check back occasionally.
