Overview
DSMdle is a daily game with optional accounts for syncing progress across devices. We try to collect as little personal data as possible. This page explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.
We don't sell your data or track you across sites
Optional accounts help sync progress, but we do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or cross-site profiling cookies. We look at aggregate gameplay stats and where in the world the game is being played — at the country level — so we can decide which features to develop for the people actually using DSMdle.
Who is responsible
The team operating DSMdle is responsible for how your data is handled. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, please reach out via the contact form.
What we collect and why
1. Game results (anonymous)
When you finish a daily case, we send the result to our database. Each record contains:
- The case you played and which diagnoses you guessed
- Whether you solved it, number of tries, number of clues used
- The country your request came from (a two-letter code, e.g. US, DE) — derived from your IP address by our hosting provider; the IP itself is not stored with the result
- A timestamp
No name, email, IP address, or device identifier is attached to game results. They are not linkable to you. We use them to show global statistics (such as solve rate per case) and to understand our userbase's geography for feature planning.
2. Game state, accounts, and auth
If you play without an account, your personal stats, streaks, survey display state, language preference, and game progress are stored in your browser's localStorage and small cookies for language/timezone. Clearing your browser data deletes it. If you sign in, our authentication/database provider stores your email address, auth user ID, and session cookies. DSMdle stores an account profile row tied to that user ID, plus synced game progress, derived stats, language preference, and survey display state so they work across devices.
3. Survey responses
If you answer an in-game survey, we store the answers you submit and related product planning metadata:
- Survey answers, including any optional free-text answer
- Optional email address, if you choose to provide one
- Language, games played, completion state, survey ID, country code, and timestamp
- An account link if you are signed in, so survey state can sync across devices
We use survey responses to understand product interest and prioritize features.
4. Contact form
If you write to us through the contact form, we store your message and — only if you tick the "contact me back" box — your email. We also store the IP address of the submission to prevent spam and abuse.
5. Server and hosting logs
Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs (request URL, status code, IP address, user agent) for security and reliability. We do not use them for analytics or profiling. They are retained according to the provider's standard policy.
What we do not collect
- No passwords stored by us; sign-in is handled by our authentication provider
- No third-party advertising or marketing trackers
- No analytics SDKs (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, etc.)
- No cross-site tracking cookies
- No sale or rental of any data, ever
Who processes the data
We use a small number of standard service providers to run the site:
- A hosting and edge-network provider (serves the site, generates the country code from your IP)
- An authentication and managed database provider (stores account data, game results, account progress, survey state, survey responses, and contact messages)
Some of these providers may process data outside Europe. Where they do, transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual safeguards.
How long we keep data
- Anonymous game results: kept indefinitely for aggregate statistics. They are not linked to you.
- Account data and progress: kept while your account exists, so your progress can sync across devices.
- Survey responses: kept while useful for product planning, unless deletion is required or requested where applicable.
- Contact messages: kept for as long as needed to respond and for a reasonable follow-up period, then deleted.
- Hosting logs: retained per the provider's default policy (typically days to a few weeks).
- Local browser data: stays until you clear it.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have it corrected or erased
- Restrict or object to its processing
- Receive a copy in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is what we're relying on
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
Because game results are anonymous, we usually cannot link them back to a specific person — but for any contact-form data, just get in touch and we'll act on your request.
Children
DSMdle is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Please check back occasionally.
